If you are someone who only has time to exercise for a short period of time and wants to burn fat, then High Intensity Interval Training, more commonly known as ‘HIIT’ training, might just be the exercise for you. HIIT training can be an extremely good way of improving your fitness and power ability. According to research, HIIT sessions have the potential to burn the most amount of calories in the shortest amount of time. Not only does it burn calories, it also helps dramatically improve your cardiovascular system, lowering both your resting heart rate and blood pressure.
It is scientifically recognised that HIIT training has similar rewards to traditional endurance training, except that it allows you to complete the session in a shorter time frame.
A typical HIIT training session might include a series of intervals with short but intense anaerobic bursts followed by a recovery period at a slower pace; for example, 15 seconds at an intense pace followed by 45 seconds of a gentle jog or walk. You don’t need any specific apparatus to complete these training sessions. You can do this in your local park, in the street or even in your back garden… so there’s no excuse!
However, you must take care when doing HIIT training sessions as there is a greater risk of injury. So in order for your body to be at a lower risk of injury when completing these exercises, make you sure you do a proper warm-up and cool-down afterwards. You could also do some specific strengthening and flexibility exercises for the part of the body most at risk of injury.
