There is a great deal of pressure from the media and society in general for people to have the ‘perfect body’. People become obsessed with training for endless hours or dieting excessively to reach a specific goal. Yet at the same time they start to lose their original passion and love for training as well as pure enjoyment of food.
The internal feeling that you receive when you are exercising is fundamental to your wellbeing. Exercising is not just about your external appearance, but rather how you feel within yourself when you are lifting your strongest bench press or taking the last few steps of your first 10km run. Train because you want to train, not because you feel like you should. There is nothing better than the feeling that you are getting fitter, stronger and improving your physical and mental wellbeing.
Professional athletes who train up to three times a day need to enjoy and love the sport that they are competing in. It is hard for any athlete to produce great results when they are not fully committed, motivated nor enjoy what they are doing. Even if they have bad sessions, a professional athlete will be able to stay strong and persevere, knowing that that session is only going to get them closer to their ultimate goal.
Look beyond society’s portrayal of the ‘perfect body’ and get in tune with how your body feels when you have an awesome session or cook up a delicious and nutritious meal. Do it for yourself, not for anyone else.
